IMG_8307I think this picture probably sums me up in a nutshell–I’m a tangled mess of thoughts and ideas, but don’t know where I’m going with them.

I’m most at home at the beach or in the mountains with my dogs. All the personality tests and the  StrenghtsQuest inventory tell me that I’m the intense, introverted, intellectual type. I think intellectual is a stretch, but hey, I’ll take it. It’s true that I spent most of my free time as a kid either reading a book or exploring the woods and the creek behind our house looking for critters. I’ve always liked to learn about new things and a variety of things from anthropology to zoology. In my high school yearbook under future goals, I wrote: Become a multi-lingual biologist in search of the ultimate ski slope.

I’m still a work in progress. I’m neither multi-lingual nor a biologist and I haven’t found that ultimate ski slope. I work in higher education and haven’t been skiing in years, but I haven’t lost my love of nature or spirit of adventure. I am restless and, as I mentioned in my first post, Torschlusspanik is a very prominent feeling these days.

I write about what I’m thinking, largely in response to the world around me. I hope to spark interesting conversations and exchange ideas on a variety of topics. I feel that we can all make a difference and we can help to make the world a better place if we take the time to have meaningful conversations and actually try to understand each other. That’s my goal. Will you help me achieve it?

All the best,
